Life Is Good Award from Thrive On Novelty

Thank you Louise from Thrive On Novelty for giving me this award.

Louise and I have only discovered each other’s blogs in the last few weeks.  I really look forward to Louise’s take on beauty, fashion and celebrities.  We’re both Team (Olivia) Palermo.

The rules of the tag are:

1. Thank and link back to the person that gave you this award
2. Answer the 10 survey questions – please see below
3. Pass this award on to other bloggers whom you think are fantastic and notify them with a comment

So here goes..

1. If you blog anonymously, are you happy doing this? If you aren’t anonymous, do you wish you started out anonymously, so that you could be anonymous now?

The simple answer is I blog anonymously.  By which I mean that I don’t use my real name or include identifying photos in my posts.  Though there was that one time when I was a young player where I accidentally left my name and address in a photo I uploaded…  But was saved by an eagle eyed reader called Anon.

I also take pains to not directly identify any of my family and friends that I may write about here on Sydney Shop Girl.  Not all of them know that I blog and I don’t think it is right to ‘out’ them whilst I remain anonymous.  I have let some friends know about my blog only because I think that they may be interested in what I write about.  They all lead busy lives and I don’t want to come across as forcing them to read my blog.

The reason for the anonymity is that I really want to keep my blog and my personal and professional lives separate.  Sydney Shop Girl is the me that loves writing about, endlessly photographing (yes that should be ‘papping’) and reflecting on my life.  As this blog has grown in terms of the quality of the writing and photos as well as you lovely followers, it as found its true voice.  The voice seems to be at its best when I stick to what I love blogging about life as SSG.  It tends to croak or grate if I veer off into anything ‘too personal’ or ‘too emotional’ or into the realm of ‘plain catty’.

2. Describe an incident that shows your inner stubborn side.

My hair and the lengths that I will go to for a straight, low on daily maintenance ‘do.  6 hours plus at the hairdresser and then the challenges of not washing, tying or pinning back my hair for another 3 days.  I look like an elf for weeks afterward.  It drives my parents nuts seeing what I’ve done to my naturally wavy hair but I cannot give it away.  Perhaps this should be ‘addicted’ rather than ‘inner stubborn’.

3. What do you see when you really look at yourself in the mirror?

A body that’s served me well for the life that I lead.  It can run, swim, walk endless hours around the shops and is getting more bendy at yoga.  Focussing on what it can do has helped me to be less harsh on the way it looks.  Body shapes change over time and all you really can do is be happy with how you are at any given point or else be motivated to do what it takes to change what you don’t like.
4. What is your favourite summer cold drink?

Fresh coconut juice and flesh straight out of the coconut.
5. When you take time for yourself, what do you do?

Blog, get a pedicure, take my camera out for an adventure somewhere or sit and read with my pot plants.
6. Is there something that you still want to accomplish in your life?

To be a mother, to visit India, to be one of those cool nanas that goes on cruises wearing metallic orthopaedic sandals, impeccable gravity defying hair and a completely ‘tropical’ wardrobe.  I hope to see Mr SSG there in a matching wardrobe that I will personally choose for him.
7. When you attended school, were you the class clown, the class overachiever, the shy person, or always ditching

I was shy and nerdy in high school and made some friendships that have lasted until today.

At uni, I got a little less shy and made further friendships to last a lifetime.
8. If you close your eyes and want to visualize a very poignant moment in your life, what would you see?

A person that is loved by so many people who are there to help in any way they can.  I also see the light at the end of that tunnel, ways to dig myself out of that black hole and how even bad things can enrich my life.
9. Is it easy for you to share your true self in your blog, or are you more comfortable writing posts about other people and events?

A bit of both, I think I covered this in my answer to question 1.
10. If you had the choice to sit down and read a book or talk on the phone, which would you choose and why?

I’m a reader.  Not great on the phone, sorry!
